MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2011 HELD AT THE VAN LILL AUDITORIUM CENTRAL UNIVERITY OF TECHNOLOGY, BLOEMFONTEIN ON SATURDAY AT 9:50 19 FEBRUARY 2011
1. WELCOME: The outgoing chairman, Sydney Masalla, opened by clarifying the role and purpose of the Society. The Society is: Non-statutory, A professional body, Membership voluntary, Non-profit organisation, try to preserve the interest and integrity of the profession, Affiliated with the ISRRT and is NOT a union.
2. ATTENDANCE, APOLOGIES AND CORRECTIONS: 106 delegates attended and 56 were Society members.

15 October 2010 – 1439 members, Membership renewable annually. Due date: 31 March each year. Lapsed member = Failure to renew before due date. Ordinary members: R300.00; Associate / student: R150.00; Institutional members R600.00; Joining (new/lapsed) R30.00
The National audited balance sheet is available from all branch secretaries for perusal by members.
The new board on the HPCSA was appointed in 2010. The inaugural meeting was on 27 July 2010. SORSA adopted the ISRRT Code of Ethics. Dr F Peer was re-elected for another term of office as ISRRT Director of Public Relations. Mrs J Motto was elected as Regional Co-ordinator Education: Africa
8 November each year is celebrated world-wide as World Radiography Day (WRD). Bloemfontein branch’s celebration in 2010 was a resounding success, organised by Belinda van der Merwe. Pictures are on Facebook.
South African Radiographer (SAR) - Next issue - May 2011. Articles for publication are
always appreciated. Online submissions are possible throughout the year. Hesta Friedrich-Nel is part
of editorial board. There is a need
for reviewers in specialised fields: Ultrasound, Nuclear medicine, CT and MRI, Management
and PETCT. Interested persons to register on-line: www.sar.org. Waiting for accreditation of the
journal by the Department of Higher Education and Training. (DoHET).
Publications in the SAR by Bloemfontein Radiographers were: B vd Merwe & H Friedrich-Nel (May
2010) and L Beÿer & P Diedericks (November 2010)
CPD articles can be read in the SAR and 3 CEU’s can be obtained by answering
multiple choice questions 2 times per year. The service is free for SORSA
members. Online e-CPD -
on trial with the May edition. Ferial Isaacs is SORSA CPD committee
co-ordinator.
Council regularly notes Government gazettes for matters of interest to radiographers. Latest to note: Gazette No 33498, 30-08-2010 relates to the regulations relating to indemnity cover for registered health practitioners.

Imaging 2011 Congress 4 – 6 March 2011 SORSA-RSSA ICC, Durban . The Bloemfontein Branch is part the organising committee with ConsultUs and F Peer. The CUT staff was the scientific committee.
SORSA Education Award is a new fund effective from 2010 and was a merger from the Education and Joyce Runnalls Memorial Trust Funds. Guidelines and application forms are available at www.sorsa.org.za. Closing date for financial assistance from all the Society funds is 30 June annually

Election of new branch committee for 2011 and 2012. Belinda van der Merwe (past Chairman-elect) now Chairman 2011 to 2012 and (rep private practice) The following radiographers stay on as members because no other nominations were received. Carin Meyer (National Council rep) ; Antoinette Grundling (Secretary), Cindy la Grange (Treasurer) ; Hesta Friedrich-Nel (Education Rep), Sydney Masalla (Past Chairman), Abram Banda (Diagnostic rep Pelonomi). Nominations received: One rep for Nuclear Med is Erika jansen van Vuuren. One rep for Therapy is Ilze Botha. One nomination for additional rep diagnostic Universitas was received - Seatile Masenkhane. One nomination for additional rep for Radiological Practice van Dyk & Partners was received – Nadia Myburgh. Two additional member students nominated where: Johan-Hendrik Esterhuyse & Elske vd Walt.
