SUMMARY NATIONAL COUNCIL MEETING 2/2011

held on fridAY 9 SEPTEMBER 2011

1.         Society Addresses

            The Administrative office of the Society has moved to Pinelands, Cape Town.

·         The new postal address is P.O. Box 505, Howard Place, 7450

·         The new contact numbers are: Telephone 021 531 1231 and Fax 021 531 1233.

·         The e-mail address for the Society at the Administrative Office in Cape Town is Sorsa.admin@iafrica.com

·         The Government gazette website also has interesting information pertaining to rules and regulations for radiographers. This address is www.doclog.co.za/gazette/

 

2.            Society Membership

Membership of the Society of Radiographers as at 6 September 2011 was 1271 members.

Members are reminded that subscription fees must be paid by 31 March each year. After this date membership will be terminated and a re-joining fee of R 30.00 will be required, plus the current subscription.

 

3.         Subscription fees for 2012

There will be no increase in membership fees in 2012. Subscription fees are:

            Ordinary members:                                      R 300.00

            Associate / Student members:                   R 150.00

                        Institutional Members:                                 R 600.00

            Joining (admin.) Fee for new members:  R   30.00

 

4.         Changes to the Constitution

Proposed changes to the Constitution will be advertised on the website and will be available from branches for comment from members.

 

5.            Web-site

The website is under construction. Members are encouraged to update their cell phone numbers if necessary as the members-only section on the website will use the member’s cell phone number as their username.  

 

6.            Government Gazettes

Council regularly notes Government gazettes with interest to radiographers.

Copies of the Government Gazettes are kept at the Administrative Office in Cape Town.

 

7.            Celebrations

            World Radiography Day

            8 November is celebrated internationally as World Radiography Day. Please send details and pictures of your events for inclusion on the website.

 

8.            SORSA 60^th Anniversary

            The Society celebrates 60 years (1951 – 2011). Please refer to the website for the history of SORSA.

 

9.            The S. A. Radiographer

            Members are reminded that 3 CEUs can be earned by reading the articles in the journal and then answering the multi-choice questions (MCQs) on the answer form printed in the journal. This is a free service to members of the Society.

 

            Directed Reading Programme articles (DRPs) are available to members for a small fee from the Administrative Office. CEUs can also be earned by reading these articles and answering multi-choice questions.

 

10.         SAQA and the Professional Bodies

            In order to fulfill the requirements of SAQA that the Society be recognized as a professional body, the Society database should include all extra qualifications acquired by radiographers, not only those related to Radiography.

            Members are asked to complete the leaflet requesting this information which will be inserted in the November 2011 issue of the SA Radiographer.

     

11.         Occupation Specific Dispensation for Radiography (OSD)

The Society will write a letter to the Department of Health / Department of Public Service Administration (DPSA) stating the concern and unhappiness of radiographers regarding the implementation of the OSD for Radiographers.

           

12.       Next National Congress

            The next national congress will be in 2013.

            Date and venue have still to be decided.

 

13.       Future Congresses

14.       ISRRT

            H. Friedrich-Nel was elected as the new representative for the ISRRT.

 

15.       Extending the Scope of Radiographers

            Following a panel discussion at the Congress 2011 this subject is to be discussed further with the HPCSA as to how the Society can proceed with it.

            The Society is in discussion with the Society of Radiologists on the injecting of contrast media by radiographers.
